FAQs

How is Phi Sigma Pi different from other professional fraternities on campus?

Phi Sigma Pi accepts students of all majors so that we have more knowledge and experiences to share amongst the brotherhood! There are many opportunities to learn from other brothers, whether learning how to code from the computer science majors or refining your resume during workshops led by business students. Phi Sigma Pi brothers are always looking for ways to develop new skills and share resources, and brothers from all walks of life and academic areas get to share experiences.

Why should I join Phi Sigma Pi?

Phi Sigma Pi aka "the Pi” aka "PSP" is a brotherhood, a community, and a unique network that allows you to form special bonds – both professional and social – that will significantly shape your Michigan experience. Whether you’re female, male, non-binary, a chemist, nurse, creative writer, sculptor, marketer, or teacher, we are always looking for new faces to join our professional fraternity. It’s also important to note you can participate in both a social fraternity and a professional one; many of our brothers are involved in both.

What does recruitment consist of?

Recruitment is an opportunity for Phi Sigma Pi brothers and potential new members to get to know each other. Recruitment involves fun-filled recruitment events where you will interact with brothers, an online application, and an interview. This is intended to provide you with a true picture of Pi to ensure that the Pi is the right fit for you.

Who is eligible to rush Phi Sigma Pi?

All University of Michigan undergraduate students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are eligible to rush. We recruit students from all colleges and all majors. For first-semester students who do not yet have 12 credits and a GPA, we offer the option of joining the affiliate program. This program, led by an affiliate advisor, allows the first-semester freshman the opportunity to become involved with the organization by getting to know brothers and participating in events. Upon completion of the affiliate program, the affiliates will have the option of continuing with the initiate process in their second semester. Transfer students are eligible as well. Anyone who has completed at least one semester of collegiate-level work at any other undergraduate institution and has a GPA of at least 3.0 can still rush the Pi, even if it's their first semester attending the University of Michigan.

Can I participate in recruitment more than once?

Of course! Rushing multiple times shows us that you are committed and interested. We encourage all interested students to rush.

What types of events does Phi Sigma Pi host throughout the semester?

With study nights, workshops, fundraisers, mental health hours, social mixers, formals, and more, there are plenty of ways to participate and engage both within the fraternity and the broader campus community. In order to remain an active brother, attendance at a minimum number of events is required, as well as weekly Sunday chapter attendance. This means you can determine how much time you dedicate, as long as you are completing your requirements.
